CERTIFICATE COURSE IN HUMAN RIGHTS

The Human Rights Course was inaugurated on 1 July, attended by more than 70 volunteers. The guest-speaker, Mrs. Sheela Ramanathan of the Law Network spoke about the legal aspects of Human Rights, public interest litigations and issues related to Human Rights violation. She also emphasized the importance of the student community especially in the safeguarding of Human Rights.  The course deals with concepts of national, international and historical significance, basic rights, legal aspects and roles of government, NGOs, legal bodies etc. The classes are conducted 3 days a week, theory classes on Tuesdays and Wednesdays and the field exposures on Saturdays. Since 4 July, they have had 5 theory classes, a visit to the Rajendranagar Slum and also a presentation on drug abuse.The faculty includes Mr. Joseph Varghese (MSW), Mr. Santhosh (Sociology Dept), Mr. M. R. Sharma (MSW), in addition to guest faculty and NGO experts.
